Analysis: Coco Gauff at the 2024 WTA Finals

Take a closer look at images of the American tennis player winning the 2024 WTA Finals by photographer Abdullah Alahmari.

Narrated by Myles David of Tuned Into Tennis. Featured photo by Abdullah Alahmari.

Tennis player Coco Gauff was 2024’s highest-paid female athlete in the world, and at the season-ending tournament, she won a WTA record of 4.8 million dollars.

Behind those big paychecks is a talented 20-year-old who started and ended the season with titles, including lifting the prestigious WTA Finals trophy.

Captured by Abdullah Al-Ahmari, this stop-motion image captures Coco’s forehand—the most scrutinized part of her game. Yet, it wasn’t a liability at the WTA Finals, where she beat both the world no. 1 and no. 2 before securing the title.

This photo and its six frames echo Coco’s speed, adaptability, and precision on the court. Wearing a royal purple kit, also the color of the WTA, she was powerful and regal from start to finish.

We like Coco so much that we made an entire issue about her winning the 2023 US Open. What do you think are her chances are of winning another major title in 2025?

When you look at this photo, what do you see?
